The Lakota East Symphonic Winds, under the direction of William Thomas, received notification this past summer they were one of a select few High School Ensembles invited to perform at the Music For All National Festival held in Indianapolis, IN and will travel to the festival March 4-6 th , 2010. Ensembles in the Music for All National Festival were invited to perform following a taped audition process, judged by three college professors. The Festival is comprised of the Bands of America National Concert Band Festival, National Percussion Festival, Middle School National Music Festival, and also features concerts by the Honor Band of America, the Honor Orchestra of America and the Jazz Band of America. There are 27 ensembles ranging from junior high to high school levels scheduled to perform, and Lakota East Symphonic Winds was the only ensemble from Ohio invited to this prestigious event. The festivals are non-competitive events, with ensembles performing for a knowledgeable audience, receiving input and clinics from a panel of leading music educators and student members participating in Master Classes with professional musicians and other special events. Lakota can be proud to have such fine musicians representing Ohio in this prestigious festival. |

Hawks for Haiti raises $4,171.22 in just two minutes In a unique fundraiser, Lakota East High School students raised $4,171.22 in just two minutes in their “Hawks for Haiti” campaign. The school's Student Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) conducted the fundraiser this past week, the proceeds of which will go to the American Red Cross to help with the earthquake recovery effort in Haiti. The fundraiser involved each first period class donating as much money as they could during a two minute window. The classes that raised the most money received a doughnut breakfast from East Principal Keith Kline.
