MELLOW MUSHROOM MONDAYS IN JUNE - Delicious Fundraiser to Benefit the J. Kyle Braid Foundation of Lakota West and Lakota East. The J. Kyle Braid Leadership Foundation of Butler County and the Mellow Mushroom restaurant at Union Center have partnered for a fundraiser in June.  Every Monday in June, the Mellow Mushroom will donate 20% of every bill when the customer presents the attached flier.  The Monday dates are June 3, 10, 17 and 24. 
The J. Kyle Braid Leadership Foundation will host 10 Lakota West and East sophomores for a week-long training seminar at their ranch in Villa Grove, Colorado during the summer.  Eat at the Mellow Mushroom on Mondays in June, present the attached flier, and support teen leadership at Lakota West and East.

Clarification on Baccalaureate Time - We apologize for any confusion, however, there have been conflicting times reported for the Baccalaureate Ceremony to be held on Tuesday, May 28 at Princeton Pike Church of God. RELAY FOR LIFE HUGE SUCCESS - CONGRATULATIONS go out to the students, staff, parents and community members that helped to make this year's Relay for Life Event a HUGE SUCCESS. This year's participants raised over $33,000 to fight cancer.

Fourth Quarter Assessments - Attached you will find the schedule for fourth quarter assessments. Please review this schedule carefully and help your teen prepare for these tests. Reminder: these tests represent 10% of your son/daughter's final semester grade in each class. ALL TESTS MUST BE COMPLETED BY NOON ON MONDAY, JUNE 3 . That is the final day of work for our teachers. If work is not completed by that time, teachers will not grade the work/test until they return in August.  Please make sure your student is in school and finishes up all assignments/tests prior to the last day of school.

Closing Down the East Clinics - If your child has medication in the clinic, PLEASE remember to pick it up before May 31st. By state law, medication cannot be kept in the clinic and must be destroyed at the end of the year if not picked up. A student who is 18 cannot pick up their own medication. You may pick up medication from 7:30am till 3:00pm You will need a new order if your child will need to take medication next year (even if it is over-the-counter such as Tylenol).  The medication permits are available in the clinic and on the district website under clinic forms.

School Fees & Report Cards -Students received school fee invoices last Friday. These fees cover items used instructionally by your teen. Examples include workbooks, lab materials and art supplies. ALL UNPAID SCHOOL FEES ARE NOW PAST DUE. Please take care of this obligation before the end of the school year. Those who have unpaid fees on June 1 will no longer be able to use Home Access Center. This includes being able to see final report cards, classroom grades and transcripts. Please get your fees paid immediately.

Lakota East Releases Lip Dub' Video Online - Charitable Project has Raised More than $12K So Far


Before releasing the much-anticipated “lip dub” video online this week, Lakota East High School's National Honor Society invited the video's stars – students, staff and the community at-large – to enjoy a live premiere in the school's auditorium.

Hundreds gathered to watch months of planning unfold into an 11-minute string of musical scenes shot in and around Lakota East High School. Viewers watched as students and staff handed the microphone off to one another to help produce the largest multi-song lip synching video ever – and support a good cause in the process.

Mobs of students and staff outlined the video's path, which zigzagged throughout the building's hallways, classrooms and large gathering areas like the gymnasium, cafeteria and auditorium. Viewers watched in awe as the video concluded on the high school's football field, where more than 1,500 people from the Lakota community gathered to be a part of the video's final aerial shot taken from a helicopter.

The resulting music video was the culmination of months of planning led by NHS President Sydney Aten and Vice President Amber Jagpal. Alongside their fellow NHS members, the duo initially conceived the idea at the start of the school year, setting out to raise awareness and funding for Cincinnati Children's Center for Spina Bifida. It was a philanthropic designation inspired by fellow Lakota students like VanGorden Elementary sixth grader Amelia Murphy, who suffers from Spina Bifida.  

Over time, that initial idea grew into a full-fledged community-wide endeavor that gained the attention and support of key community leaders like University of Cincinnati President Santa Ono and Cincinnati Reds Pitcher Bronson Arroyo. Soon enough, the approaching lip dub became a trending topic on social media and even a cause other Lakota schools gravitated toward with their own fundraisers.

At the time of the video's release, all these efforts combined had helped raise more than $12,000 for the cause, far exceeding the $5,000 goal established at the project's outset.  And according to NHS leaders, this is just the beginning. As originally intended, the video's release is the ultimate catalyst for raising awareness and funding at a national level.

“The idea all along has been to make this an effort that spreads beyond the walls of Lakota East,” said Sydney. “The more people we can get involved, the more word will spread and the more of an impact we'll make in the end.”

With nearly 45,000 views of the video in just two days, they've certainly achieved a presence beyond just Lakota East. Still, the Sydney and others have not wavered from their ultimate goal to gain national acclaim by catching the attention and endorsement of Ellen DeGeneres. It's an effort that was kick started at an all-school assembly earlier in the year, where students captured on video a “We Want Ellen” chant that begin circulating around social media.
